I have had a variety of brands, but the Riverwalkers are by far the lightest and most comfortable. They give good support also. There are two downsides, though. The studs do not extend very far past the felt, so do not grip very well until the felt has worn down some. I fell a couple times during this period when the shoes did not grip the smooth bedrock I was walking on. The other downside is that the felt soles delaminate from the shoe after a season or two. According to the fly shop pro I talked to, this happens to almost every pair of Riverwalkers. He said he has two pairs so he can send one pair back for repairs and still have a pair to wear. He said the Patagonia warranty is a good one, though, and that they consistently repair or replace the shoes. I love these shoes so much that I am willing to put up with having them resoled every couple years. The rest of the shoe is bullet proof. |
